Feeling “Spoopy” as an adult? Then you will want to sign up for a Saint Augustine Haunted Pub Crawl! Thanks to Florida’s Historic Coast, I had two tickets to a ghost tour while I visited the ancient city. I signed my husband, sisters in law and husbands up for the pub crawl which included one local brew! Read more below to see what you can expect, what to bring, and how to get “spoopy” on vacation, no matter the time of year!
How to Book the Saint Augustine Haunted Pub Crawl
Why “spoopy” and not spooky or terrifying? Well, first of all it’s not a haunted house. There are no jump scares, no special effects and certainly no shenanigans (well, planned ones, anyway!). You’ll have a lovely tour guide that will take you from place to place, (some of them bars or breweries) where they will tell you stories of historic deaths or unfortunate murder mysteries. Click here to book your Saint Augustine Haunted Pub Crawl and tell them I sent you! During the day while you wait for night to fall, try doing some of my other recommended St. Augustine activities like the Saint Augustine Alligator Farm and Zoological Park!
What to Wear
The tour starts in the daylight and quickly covers the dusky hours into the night. Because Saint Augustine has many cobbled streets and naturally uneven paths, our guides mentioned that footwear “attached” to your foot was best. Think sneakers, Chacos, and no flip flops. Otherwise, wear comfortable clothing and if you have a bag with you, make sure it’s small and easy to carry. You don’t want to worry about your items; you want to have fun and listen to your guide!
What to Bring
Don’t forget that ID! You’ll be asked to sign in and show your ID that proves you are over 21. There are no kiddos on this tour! There is only one included drink on the tour, so if you’d like to purchase more, bring your wallet or some spending money. Bring your buddies and family and have a fun night out! You may even make a few new friends along the way.
What You’ll See
Will you see a ghost? It’s possible! You’ll experience the city’s craft breweries, tiny haunts, historic monuments and learn a few new things. If you don’t have a ghost radar app on your phone (there are a lot of free ones) your guide will offer a few ghost meters for you to carry. They are sensitive to electricity, so don’t set them near your phone or a light bulb unless you want a false positive!
If you should not want to go to a bar that’s along the way, your guide will give you a time and a meeting spot during any visit. My husband and I did enter a cigar bar to see the “haunted location,” but quickly had to leave because it was THAT smoky. Instead, we snuggled up in an intimate bar called Two Birds. I highly recommend the Mary Pickford Cocktail. The bartenders are knowledgable and very friendly. If I were local, I would be a regular!
You’ll certainly see historic sites like the watch tower, the Castillo, and the City Gates, which were saved in the late 1800s. The stories you’ll hear, I’ll save for your guide… they were wonderful!
You might even see your ghost meter jump like crazy on a certain street… make sure you’re paying attention! Are you ready for a spoopy adventure with a lovely libation on the Saint Augustine Haunted Pub Crawl?
