It’s here, it’s here, it’s finally here! The holiday season is upon us, and I am so very excited. I’ve had Christmas decorations slowly seeping down my attic stairs since the end of Halloween, with more hints of holiday floating into the house each week. Now that Thanksgiving is behind us, I can finally let my freakishly large Christmas flag fly! I got started early last weekend by sending out the first batch of Christmas cards, and Red and I tackled the first task of the season, which was to create our gingerbread house. Red is four years old, and very silly, so we channeled all that silliness with Minions and to make a Minions Gingerbread House.
Admittedly, I’m terrible at baking gingerbread sheets and concocting royal icing. This is not the place for that recipe! π Instead, I’m really fond of the pre-made house pieces and large, gooey packets of royal icing that’s ready to go. This particular house had an easy-start tray which held up my walls. This meant a fast start to our project and minimal whining from my ever-impatient pre-schooler. I took on the task of, “squirting the glue” as Red put it, while he placed every piece of candy decor on the house. Yes, it took a looooong time, but seeing his personal creation come to life was well worth it!
We gathered extra leftover candies from Halloween to help decorate the house, including runts bananas, coconut “snow” and candy dots. My FAVORITE decoration was the Peep marshmallow minions, which even had the Minions’ correct faces and overalls printed on them in food-safe dye. Red went wild over them!
We lined the rooftops with tons of bananas (say it like a Minion with me: BA NA NA!) and silly above-the-door wreaths and even little candy doorknobs. I’m fairly certain Red would have just used bananas for his Minions and thought the house was perfect!
Cheesy smiles almost guaranteed while you messily build your Minions Gingerbread House!
The rear of our Minions Gingerbread House even had little Christmas Trees lining the sidewalk (Red insisted on banana-stars to top them), and I had to fuss at Red not to eat our house before it was finished! Thank goodness we had some extra candies left over for Red to snack on while he enjoyed our handiwork! We added some coconut snow, all “glued” down with icing, and pressed it into our tray. By the time we were done, Red and I were both covered in candy dust, gingerbread crumbs, sugar and wonderful smiles.
This Mommy and Me craft only took a little time after dinner for us to complete, but reminded Red all week of our special time together without anyone else! If you want to create your own gingerbread house or other holiday creation with your family, get crackin’!

I would say my holiday officially begins when the tree is up and decorated. I do not do anything–shop –until it is up and the house is decorated. Your minion gingerbread house is such a cute idea btw. Very cute!

Thank you!! I can’t wait to set up my tree. We’re on a delayed decorating schedule this year for certain projects and it’s driving me batty!

That came out awesome. I am such a hot mess whenever I try to make a gingerbread house. I always end up completely destroying it π

I’ll have to say that pre-baked pieces and an easy start tray saved my booty. Otherwise, it’s no dice!!

That is so stinking cute! Our favorite way to begin celebrating is to decorate the tree while listening to Christmas music. π
