Disclaimer: I was invited to tour a local Kroger to learn about the new Simple Truth products and sample some local goods. I was given a gift card to use and one to share with you, my readers!
I try not to discriminate amongst grocery stores. Wherever I can find the best deal, the most wholesome food and the best one stop shop for my trip, that’s where I’m headed. When I was introduced to Kroger’s new plan to slash overall prices last fall, I also heard about the huge store-owned line of organics and naturals called Simple Truth. More moms and families are demanding organics and hormone, dye and preservative free food at fair prices, and the Redhead house is no different. Kroger heard us, and I am elated to report that Kroger added 100 new items to Simple Truth last year (to the already 500 item strong line) and are planning a hundred more in 2014!
The best part about all these new products has to be the pricing. Do you think organics have to be expensive and unattainable on a budget? Think again, and check out these regular $1 offerings at your local Kroger: milks, coconut water, honey and apple juice! All of these and Simple Truth products will be 100% GMO FREE by the end of 2014. This makes me so very happy because it will be much easier AND more affordable to feed my family well on a budget.
As if the offerings weren’t already great, take a look at those egg prices – UNDER $3 for a dozen organic eggs. I don’t think I have EVER seen prices that low. Swivel around to your right, and you’ll most likely be able to pick up fresh ground peanut and almond butters, much like fancy, expensive organic stores for a fraction of the price.
Why grind your own? Buying in bulk is yet another way to save ton of money. Only buy what you need, eliminate waste and overspending. Everything from nuts to fruit, grains, coffees and trail mixes are available on Kroger’s natural wall. While Simple Truth brands are always available and a major focus for Kroger, please know that national organic brands are still there! Variety is the spice of life, and Kroger plans to have 100% of the stocked brands complete by the end of April 2014. More shelving and incorporation of organic products into the main area of the grocery store will help you find your favorites.
The best part of my recent Kroger tour was all the fabulous LOCAL products that were brought in for sampling and showcasing. I tasted decatur made NaturAlmond butter (one of Oprah’s favorites!), Arden’s Garden juices, and Blue Ridge Honey ( I even made sure to bring home some of the Blackberry variety; YUMOLA!). Each of the owners were present to talk about their products, which gave me a real sense of locality, and knowing Kroger cares enough to bring local products into each of their stores really packs a punch. The Kroger staff and clerks have been briefed on all new offerings, so they are sure to be able to answer any of my questions in regards to ingredients or products. While I will still frequent my farmers markets, knowing that I can get local, GMO free, organic seasonal goods and produce while picking up my other grocery items is invaluable. Thank you, Kroger, for hearing us and really coming through! (scroll down to enter the giveaway!)

We don’t have this chain up here in Massachusetts, but it sounds like an awesome grocery story – maybe they will make their way up here someday?

This is so awesome! I have noticed a few changes in my Kroger, too. Though I’m not sure they have the whole line yet. And I have to agree with you, I don’t discriminate on my grocery store, it’s about the best prices. However, Kroger has the best and freshest sea food selection around so I only go there for my sea food!
