Halloween is HERE! We’ve watched Hocus Pocus, bought apple cider, and brought a pumpkin home from the patch. That means there’s only one activity left for the Redhead Clan… Trick or Treating! Our costumes have been weeks in the planning, but with three full productions staring me down in only three weeks time, I’ve been a little absent from the blog prepping and working my tail off. And that means even less time for Halloween costumes! But, I did get them finished and we were all able to show them off Sunday night at our Trunk or Treat at Red’s school. My costume inspiration was Hub’s wish to be Wreck it Ralph.
Hubs has never asked for a costume before, so I was thrilled to be able to create something for us, even if it was in a pinch. Since Hubs was going as Ralph, we pulled from the rest of the movie to outfit Red and myself. As a “to scale” little joke, Red went as Fix It Felix. Give that little guy a toy hammer and he’s golden, chanting “Fix It!” and hammering away. I bought his shirt and hat, adding iron ons with graphics pulled from the movie. His hammer was this toy hammer I bought and spray painted, sealed and dried. We already had dark blue pants (corduroys) and I sewed the little tool belt from canvas and webbing.
Hubs costume was created with a previously owned green tee, a thrifted, trimmed and painted orange polo shirt, and overalls I made him years ago that I dip dyed to the correct color. This wig was redressed on his head. When we attend our big party on Friday I’ll dress it more and get it to spike up correctly. (I completely ran out of time, people!!)
I went as Vanellope Von Schweetz, a totally rad cart racer from the game Sugar Rush within the movie. I bought a wig from Epic Cosplay and through a series of creations, donned hair “candy”, airbrushed tights, a hoodie, pleated skirt and my old Doc Martens from the 90s. I promise I’ll go over my costume in detail later this week and link back to this post! Keep watching for more!
Don’t we look fabulous?! Even though it’s not perfect, it makes me VERY happy to see everyone all dressed up and having such a good time. I’m really looking forward to our grown up Halloween party at the end of the week. All my shows will be mounted and running, and yummy appetizers and a bevvie will be waiting for me to relax with them and many friends. How about you? Are your costumes all ready to go for this Halloween? Let me know in the comments below!

You guys are too cute! I think I would fall over if my husband requested to be anything for Halloween. So far, in our 8 years of marriage, I have only gotten him to be a referee– he wore a shirt and whistle he already owned–, and a pilot. This year, my little guy is obsessed with busses, and my sister is a Halloween costume maker extraordinaire, so she constructed the cutest bus costume. Should be a fun year! I can’t wait to read the details about your costume!

So cute! I love, love reading about homemade costumes. Though it is my goal to make my boys’ costumes, I’m still not sure I quite have the skill. Happy Halloween! Also, I linked to Mommy & Me as well this morning at http://zealousmom.com/mommy/.

I love the movie so these Wreck It Ralph costumes definitely make me smile! I have a friend whose son and daughter are going as Ralph and Vanellope too!

How fun! Love the family themed set. I’m debating between using my belle dress or a witches gown I bought years ago. My son can’t make up his mind.
Lindsey Paris says
Cute! I love the themed family costumes. My youngest wants us all to go as Sofia’s family from Sofia the first, her big brother isn’t going for that.

I am so jealous of your husband coming up with the idea! I love that he was excited to dress up! The fact you are a costume designer ups the homemade Wreck It Ralph costumes even more! You are so talented!
Lindsey Paris says
What a cute Wreck It Ralph costume! You guys all look adorable!!
Lindsey Paris says
I love the Wreck-It Ralph costumes! You did a great job pulling together coordinating outfits for the entire family. Being pregnant this Halloween, I didn’t give family costumes much thought – though now I wish I had!

The costumes are great! I’ve never seen the movie but now I want to. I love that you make your own costumes (and help my sis with her kiddos costumes) and it seems like you have a pretty cool job to get to make them for a living. I can sew straight lines and that’s about it.
Lindsey Paris says
Oh I love the costumes. So cute. We loved wreck it Ralph
Lindsey Paris says
You three are the absolute cutest! I love the way you came up with all of this. Awesome job!
Lindsey Paris says
Those are the cutest costumes. You did a great job on all of them. My whole family just adores that movie.
Lindsey Paris says
Thank you! It was so hard to get them finishes early for the trunk or treat, but we were very happy!
Lindsey Paris says
Thanks a bunch! It was super fun to make, and we all get to wear them again this week!
Lindsey Paris says
Wasn’t it the cutest movie? I don’t know why it’s not cannonized more!
Lindsey Paris says
Thank you! It’s SUCH a cute movie – totally worth a rental, and we loved it so much we bought it!
And hey straight lines are over half the battle. A quilt is only straight lines – you can do it!
Lindsey Paris says
Thank you! You still have one more day to get creative! You can do it!
Lindsey Paris says
Thank you so much. Red had LOADS of fun with his hammer!
Lindsey Paris says
RIGHT?! Who saw that coming?! And thank you so much – I can’t believe I eeked them out in time!
Lindsey Paris says
Wouldn’t that be fun? Princes and Princesses all around. I vote yes.
Lindsey Paris says
Combine them! A witch belle! A Belle witch! Possibilities are endless 🙂
Lindsey Paris says
How cool – I’d love to see how they did theirs, too!
Lindsey Paris says
Thanks so much – people knew who we were, too, which I thought was cool.
Lindsey Paris says
Thank you – when my wig came in, I nearly scared Hubs half to death. He thinks I’m too washed out and scary with dark hair!
Lindsey Paris says
Thanks so much – we had a blast!
Lindsey Paris says
Hey, 2 costumes is more than none! And I HAVE to see the bus costume. When you have it posted, link me back to it with a comment! I’ll share the love!
Lindsey Paris says
Seriously, you guys look freaking adorable! (And, can you believe we haven’t seen that movie? Maybe we should borrow it!)
Lindsey Paris says
Thank you!! You must see it – even Mr. S would like it!
Lindsey Paris says
