Hubs and I saw the Boon Frog Pod in a store and HAD to register for it. If no one found it interesting enough to buy, we’d go for it ourselves. It’s a bath toy storage unit with shelf for bath products and supplies. And it looks like a froggy. cool.
Retailing for $19.99 on amazon, this awesome bath accessory by Boon is a great way to get all those toys out of the tub in a kid- friendly way. I know that as an adult visiting another family’s house for the weekend – one easy way to ruin a morning shower is to have toys littering the tub and sides of the shower. Not-hotel-like. There’s a little shelf on the “inside” of the frog/whale/bug’s head that allows for shampoo bottles and bubble bath. I’ll have to say that my J&J bedtime shampoo and J&J cold formula wash fit perfectly with a little room to spare. If you have slimmer bottles, you’ll have even more room.
The frog’s back removes with a handle to become a toy scoop. The holes in the frog’s back (cleverly designed to look like “frog spots” (whatever those might be) let out all the water when toys are scooped or cleaned. The pointed design in the scoop ensures that ALL water is drained out.
The frog itself is mounted to the wall in several ways. The way we chose was the 3M-like adhesive strip that can be removed whenever we decide to leave the house. The green base piece stays intact and goes with us. The wall remains undamaged. There are also replacement strips in case you want to move your pod, or relocate it. I’ll have to say, the Pod has been up for 10 months, and even with Red occasionally reaching up to grab the toes and pulling (he’s strong!) the adhesive has held.
Other ways you can choose to attach the base piece:
- 1. Screw it into the wall (Use no more than 20 lbs) really? 20 lbs? Is the baby going to hang on it?
- Boon used to sell a suction cup version of the base pieces that attaches to the tile or shower wall (Use no more than 5 lbs)
- Removable adhesive strip (Do not use more than 10 lbs with the strip)
The frog body is incredibly light, durable, and wipes clean sooo easily. I think he’s cute, even from the back. The frog slips on to the base pieces with a small click and stays put until you move him.
Okay – you have a baby in the bathtub with a zillion little toys. The frog pod makes clean up and drying easy. Remove said baby from bath and deal with dressing the octopus baby in pajamas.
Afterwards (or during, your choice) use the frog’s back to scoop up all the toys in the tub. It may take several swipe to collect, but it’s very easy.
Rinse under the faucet to clear toys of shampoo, dirty water, bubbles, etc. About once a month I’ll do a toy wash in a bucket of water and a capful of bleach, but I’d do this without the Frog Pod, too.
After you’re done, place the frog’s back onto the body. The rest of the water will drain out overnight, resulting in nicely dried toys, shampoo stowed, and loofahs and washcloths draped on his little toes. The whale’s tail serves as a washcloth catch, or the bug’s antennae. The whale wasn’t available when we were picking our stuff out for Red – I wish it had been – I would have chose that more whimsical design. But I wouldn’t give up having a pod at all!
